Peeks of sun before light snow falls Thursday night

A dusting will coat the Inland Northwest Thursday night, with more rain and snow expected this weekend.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The breaks in the clouds Wednesday allowed temps to climb back above freezing for much of the Inland Northwest. Fog and low clouds kept parts of the Columbia Basin, like Ritzville, below freezing throughout the day. That slight warmup, along with the shift in the atmospheric pattern that brought a break in the fog means Thursday's light snow will be minimally impactful.

The west side takes the brunt of Thursday's precipitation. Eastern Washington and North Idaho will see more of the same throughout the day. The small chance of flurries arrives late Thursday, but battling the rain shadow of the Cascades means anything east of the Cascades will be minimal in impacts. For the Inland Northwest, less than a half an inch of accumulation is possible, but that's max. Falling late at night, the impacts of the light snow will be minimal Friday morning.

The ridge breaks down Friday. That brings a more widespread chance of rain and mountain snow starting late Friday and lasting through the weekend. Right now, it looks to be all rain in the valleys or low elevations. Snow likely stays above 2,800'. That means some pow for the mountains this weekend.
