SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane is undergoing a street maintenance project involving a new layer of pavement which requires southbound lanes on Market Street to close.
"The biggest concern is keeping my staff with hours," said Joe Glatt, a regional manager at Market Street Pizza. "I got a lot of single parents working here. We've slowed down starting in July for the past few years, and it's tough to make ends meet."
Glatt said the construction takes its toll on the business financially, creating a 70 percent dip in profit.
"It's tough on our parking lot too," Glatt said. "We have construction vehicles weighing at thousands coming in and out of our parking lot day in and day out. It's really tough on our concrete and asphalt."
The Washington Department of Transportation reported a closure of the roundabouts at Freya and access to the North Spokane Corridor starting Monday.
Kirstin Davis with the City of Spokane said that could increase traffic accessing Market Street, but added the city will be looking to minimize any overlap with both projects.
"I hope more people come out to us," said Glatt. "We have our regulars who are able to deal with the new route, but so many people just drive by who are new to the area."
Glatt said he hopes more people come to the restaurant, as he waits for the construction projects in the area to end.
