Driver in a stolen vehicle crashes into box truck in Spokane Valley Friday

The driver and passenger in the stolen vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A driver in a stolen car crashed into a box truck just after 10 a.m. on Friday.

The crash occurred at South Dishman Mica Rd. between Eighth and 16th Avenue.

Spokane Valley Police confirmed the car was stolen and the driver and passenger were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck had minor injuries and did not need to go to the hospital.

Spokane Valley Police said the driver of the stolen vehicle is 31-year-old Jason McWhirk, a wanted, convicted felon. Once released from the hospital, they said he will face charges including vehicular assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The passenger of the stolen vehicle is a 16-year-old boy, also a convicted felon and Police said he is not facing charges.

Police believe driving at high speeds and driving recklessly were factors in the crash.
