SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Despite the IFL announcing Monday afternoon that league play is cancelled from the 2020 season, the Spokane Shock say they will continue seek out games in 2020.
The Shock told KREM 2 News Monday night that they are planning to post a tentative schedule on Tuesday and that the games will not be considered official IFL games. They are open to playing teams both inside and outside the IFL and want to schedule seven to ten contests.
In talking with owner Sam Adams on Monday night, he said that there is no drop dead date for his team as of right now.
"We're not going anywhere. I made a 20-30 year investment into Spokane. I'm not laying my people off," said Adams to KREM 2. "I believe that people in Spokane need jobs. I want to be able to have jobs. We're going to hold on as long as we can. I promised my fans that I would have games so we're going to do our best to give them seven to ten games."
Adams says they will only play games when the governor says they can. He plans on using this off time for looking into purchasing a practice facility and preparing and training staff for whenever the season begins.
He also said that the team plans to be in the IFL when the 2021 season starts.
On March 12, the season was initially postponed due to the pandemic, putting the Shock's season on hold at the time.
It would have been the first IFL season for a Spokane team since the Spokane Empire ceased operations in July of 2017.
