EWU women win program record eighth consecutive game over Weber State

Jamie Loera led the way with 17 points for the Eags.

CHENEY, Wash. — The Eastern Washington women's basketball team shrugged off a sluggish start and played dominant defense in a 56-38 thrashing of Weber State.

This marks the eighth consecutive win for the Eags, a new program record.

"It's huge. That is a tribute to these players and our staff and how hard they work and their level of buying in. This is a special group and I am just honored to be on this journey with them," EWU head coach Joddie Gleason said postgame.

Jamie Loera led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jaydia Martin added 15 points and made a trio of three pointers.

"I was just able to step up and knock down shots and my teammates having the confidence in me really builds my confidence as well," Loera said.

The key to the victory was the Eagle defense, which forced 24 turnovers. Aaliyah Alexander led the way with three steals.

The swarming Eagle defense held Weber State to a ghastly 29.5 percent shooting from the field.

It was Kid's Day at Reese Court as hundreds of local elementary school children packed the stands to take in the early morning game.

Eastern Washington will look to extend their program record winning streak to nine on Saturday at Reese Court against the Idaho State Bengals. Tip off for the game is set for 2:00 PM.
