Police investigating after officer shoots at suspect during pursuit

Spokane Police were called about a man in a parking lot with a weapon. During the investigation, an officer fired at the suspect but no one was hurt.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Law enforcement is investigating after a Spokane Police officer fired at a suspect while chasing after him on Wednesday morning.

It started around 4 a.m. when police received reports of a man in a parking lot with a weapon near West 5th Avenue and S Bernard Street.

When police arrived, they said the man left the parking lot and got into the passenger side of another vehicle. Police said there was then some kind of struggle inside that vehicle and it began to move.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle and block it in, about three blocks away. Police said the man who they first observed in the parking lot then left the vehicle and ran away.

An officer chased after the man. Police said during the chase the man showed a weapon. An officer shot at the suspect but did not hit him. The man then surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Spokane County Sheriff's Office is taking over the investigation.
