Pepperdine transfer signs financial aid agreement at Gonzaga University

Michael Ajayi will join Gonzaga men's basketball team for the 2024-25 season.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Michael Ajayi, former Pepperdine men's basketball's leading scorer has officially signed a financial aid agreement at Gonzaga University, according to Gonzaga men's basketball. 

The 6'7" Ajayi transferred to Gonzaga late March after a breakout season at Pepperdine. Just three weeks later, he declared for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. 

But what does that mean? 

Some college players declare for the NBA Draft and maintain their college eligibility so they can receive feedback from NBA scouts and see where they sit in the professional league.

The deadline for early entry players to withdraw from the Draft and return to school is June 16th.

Ajayi is a 6'7" forward from Kent, Washington. He also is team's leader in rebounding, steals and minutes. Per game he averages, 17.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 34.7 minutes. The Washington local is a junior who transferred to Pepperdine after two years as Pierce College.  

The new recruit was awarded All-West Coast Conference honors for the 2023-24 season, earning All-WCC first team status beside Gonzaga's Graham Ike, Ryan Nembhard and Anton Watson.
