City of Spokane Proposition No. 1 holds strong | Latest Results

If approved, the ballot item would ban homeless camping within 1,000 feet of parks, schools and daycares in the city of Spokane.

SPOKANE, Wash. — For this year's General Election, voters in the city of Spokane will decide if they want to ban homeless camping within 1,000 feet of parks, schools and daycares.

That decision comes in the form of Proposition 1.

Below are the real-time initial election results:

The anti-camping initiative has received opposition from from homeless advocates, who say it would only cause further harm to people experiencing homelessness in the city.

A new interactive map designed by EWU Geoscience Professor Robert Sauders provides voters with an in-depth look at what areas the camping ban would cover in the city.

While the interactive map shows the areas impacted by the proposed camping ban, it does not include the city's already established camping restrictions near rivers, railroad viaducts and within three blocks of shelters.

More information on the map can be found here.

The Secretary of State will certify the results of the general election on November 28, 2023.
