The victim was identified as 12-year-old Nahziyien Gordon by the Spokane County Medical Examiner. His cause and manner of death are pending.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A teenager has died after jumping into the Spokane River near Riverfront Park, according to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD). SFD said the teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday night after being underwater for about an hour.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office Dive Team and the Spokane Valley Swift Water Rescue Team searched the water around the Howard Street Bridge around 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

SFD said four teenagers jumped off the bridge, but only three came out. That's when rescue efforts began. According to SFD the water was 15 feet deep where the victim was pulled out. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but SFD said they were pronounced dead shortly after.

The teen was identified as 12-year-old Nahziyien Gordon by the Spokane County Medical Examiner. His cause and manner of death are pending.

Spokane Police warn people to pay attention to signage near rivers and lakes, and to be aware of strong under currents in the river.
