Memorial Day events, ceremonies in Spokane area honor our fallen heroes

Memorial Day gives us a chance to honor those who died serving the United States. Here are some you can observe the day in and around Spokane.

Memorial Day gives us the chance to honor those who have fought and died for the United States.

There are many events around the area that provide the opportunity to honor fallen veterans, and those who have or are currently serving. 

Memorial Day Heroes' Breakfast — Spokane

Heritage Funeral and Cremation will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

The event costs $3 per person, but veterans and service personnel get in free. Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be served.

All proceeds will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank and non-perishable food donations will also be accepted.

A blood drive put on by Vitalant will also be held at Heritage from 9 a.m. to noon.

2019 Memorial Day Ceremony — Medical Lake

The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

A prelude performed by the Lilac City Community Band will take place starting at 10:30 a.m.

The event is open to the public but parking is limited. Seating will also be limited, so those attending are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Pets are not allowed at the cemetery and those attending are asked to not use tobacco or vaping products.

Liberty Lake Memorial Day Breakfast — Liberty Lake

A pancake breakfast will be held at Liberty Lake's Pavillion Park from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m on Monday.

The breakfast is free but donations will be accepted for the Inland Northwest honor Flight.

A program will also take place at 9 a.m., during which breakfast will not be served.

America the Beautiful — Coeur d'Alene

A painting class focused on the American flag will be held at The Paint Buzz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.

Veterans can get a free class with The Paint Buzz and those wanting to take part are asked to call ahead.
