Officers arrested 36-year-old Jacob Spray on Tuesday night. He is suspected of assaulting his wife and ultimately causing her death.

PULLMAN, Wash. — A Pullman man is in jail after he was arrested for allegedly murdering his estranged wife.

Officers arrested 36-year-old Jacob Spray on Tuesday night. He is suspected of assaulting his wife and ultimately causing her death. Spray was booked into the Whitman County Jail for one count of second-degree murder.

According to the Pullman Police Department (PPD), officers responded to a request for a welfare check on a Pullman woman shortly after 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found the woman with serious injuries they said were the result of an assault.

Officers and Pullman Fire Department medics provided medical aid to the woman, but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to PPD.

Shortly after 9 p.m., officers found and arrested the victim's estranged husband, later identified as Spray. He was booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge.

Police are investigating the incident and more information will be released as the investigation continues. The Whitman County Medical Examiner will released the victim's identity at a later time.
