Exploring Millworx: Post Falls' hidden gem emerging along I-90

When you are driving east you must pay close attention because you might pass it without noticing what is coming to life. Welcome to the magical world of Millworx.

POST FALLS, Idaho — In KREM 2’s ongoing Boowtown series, we take a closer look at the new projects and growth in the region. Today, that leads us to Post Falls where you can get a glimpse of an emerging neighborhood right off Interstate 90.

When you are driving east you must pay close attention because you might pass it without noticing what is coming to life. Welcome to the magical world of Millworx.

Progress takes time. Something true not only at the gym, but also in the field of construction. Two things Millworx knows very well.

At Shift Finess you can get in shape, or you can watch a neighborhood being built right in front of your eyes. Owner of Shift Fitness, Jodi Smith said, “Being the first business here. We get to watch all the progression take place. We get to meet all the people. We get to be a part of it from the ground up, which is exciting.”

Millworx is a new self-sustaining, half-finished, walkable neighborhood in a city that is not exactly walkable.

Smith said, “Not everybody knows about it. This strip right here, Fourth Avenue between Idaho Street and Seltice. Not a lot of people drive down this way. I mean, they don’t necessarily have a reason to.”

Location can make or break any business, especially when it seems like you’re surrounded by more construction workers than clients. Jodi Smith said, “So yeah, it was kind of lonely. We were super excited to see the bookstore bistro come in.”

You wouldn’t expect a bookstore bistro in an unknown part of town to be so immensely popular, but you would be wrong. Smith said, “Obviously they’re drawing a nice crowd, very family friendly as well, lots of people with small children going in and out.”

Bridget Loibl, a Kindred & Co. customer said, “We both have little one’s the same age and we’re excited to bring them back here.”

Kindred and Co can only be described as an Instagram Mom’s dream. Talia Schnider said, “The moment this place opened, it blew up. All my friends shared it. It was all over Facebook and Instagram.”

Whether it was the attention to detail, the spaciousness of the building or the dining hall that looks like it is straight out of a Harry Potter movie, Millworx has the attention of the neighborhood. Smith said, “When I tell people about where we are and what’s going down here, they’re like wow, I kind of saw something going on, but I wasn’t really sure what that was.”

While it may not look like much yet from the freeway, little by little, a new neighborhood is taking shape in Post Falls.

Also coming to the Millworx neighborhood is a new restaurant called Encanto along with a new hotel. The neighborhood also has plans to have a farmer’s market.
