SPOKANE, Wash. — A snowfall event Tuesday night  for the Inland Northwest will carry into the Wednesday morning commute hours affecting driving conditions before switching to rain.

Winter Weather Advisories kick in at 7pm tonight for Spokane, Pullman, and all of eastern Washington along with the Coeur d'Alene area until 10 a.m. Wednesday with about 1-3 inches of snow expected. Meanwhile, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for Sandpoint and far North Idaho along with the Silver Valley area and Lookout Pass for the same time frame. Those locals will get a more significant snow above 3 inches for low elevations and 6-12 inches for the mountain passes.

What makes this storm interesting is that it'll be a snow changing to rain event Wednesday. Meaning that the snow will accumulate as an extremely wet and like a slushy soup. But as temperatures warm from about 32 degrees in the morning to the mid-40s by the afternoon, the snow will melt just as fast as it falls.

For Spokane, about 1 inch of wet and slushy snow will fall between about 9 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m .Wednesday. That messy and slippery snowfall will make for a slow few hours on the roads with improving conditions by 9 a.m. as temperatures warm.

Meanwhile in Coeur d'Alene, the snow will last deeper into the morning, until about 8 or 9 a.m., meaning that 2-3 inches of snow is possible and the slippery and icy road conditions will last through the Wednesday morning hours.

By noon, temperatures will be above 40 degrees and the evening commute for the Inland Northwest will be simply wet and not snowy or icy anymore.
