School closures & delays: Snow cancels, delays schools in eastern Washington, Idaho

Schools across the Spokane area are delaying the start of school after a winter storm brought new snow to Washington and Idaho on Monday, March 6.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Following a storm that brought several inches of snow to parts of eastern Washington and north Idaho,  many school districts are choosing to delay or cancel classes on Monday, March 6.

 A Winther Weather Advisory calls for "variable snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches, [with the] highest snow amounts between Tekoa and Spokane." The advisory is scheduled until 10 a.m.

Schools closed on Monday, March 6

  • Kootenai School District
  • Plummer-Worley School District
  • St. Maries School District

School Delays

  • Ephrata School District: 2-hour delay
  • Liberty School District: 2-hour delay

Weather Forecast

Spokane and the Palouse region are under a Winther Weather Advisory on Monday morning as snow is falling.

Snow fall amounts from this storm are going to vary widely depending on where snow bands move through. Some of them are capable of dropping as much as an inch of snow per hour.

The Winter Weather Advisory calls for "variable snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches, [with the] highest snow amounts between Tekoa and Spokane."

The advisory is scheduled until 10 a.m.
