Slick roads lead to crashes, slide-offs during Inland Northwest snowstorm

Officials throughout the Inland Northwest are reporting multiple crashes and slide-offs due to slick, snow-covered roads.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Another Inland Northwest snowstorm created slick roads throughout the area.

Police in north Idaho reported slick roads leading to multiple crashes and slide-offs, including a rollover crash on Highway 95 near Athol.

Plows worked to clear I-90 on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Transportation. The freeway quickly transitioned from bare and wet conditions overnight to snow-covered at about 5 a.m.

City of Spokane crews are also working to plow, sand and deice streets on Tuesday morning. City leaders are asking that drivers slow down and drive for conditions.

WSDOT is also reported multiple crashes on southbound Highway 27 from Elder Road to Rockford due to compact snow and ice on the road.

Drivers traveling over mountain passes will also experience some dicey conditions. Chains are required on Snoqualmie Pass, as there is compact snow and ice on the road. Stevens Pass was closed earlier in the morning but has since reopened with traction tires advised.

Moderate to heavy snow continued through Tuesday morning, with the highest accumulations over the northeast portion of Washington and the northern Idaho panhandle. Three to four inches of snow are expected in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, with slightly heavier amounts farther north.
