Mayor Brown, Sen. Cantwell call on Senate to pass low-income housing tax package

If the tax package is approved by the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, the program would fund 1,700 units of affordable housing in Washington this year.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Senator Maria Cantwell and Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown will hold a press conference together on Monday. The two are calling on the Senate to pass the bipartisan tax package.

Both Mayor Brown and Senator Cantwell say passing this package would significantly boost the low-income housing tax credit program. They say if passed, it would ultimately provide more affordable housing for people in need.

The two elected officials will be joined by tenants living in apartments built using the program.

If the bipartisan tax package is approved by the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, the program would fund 1,700 units of affordable housing in Washington this year.

The house passed the package back on January 31st.

The press conference will get underway at 11 am on Monday.
