Michigan has a satellite camp partner — and it's an SEC school

Football coaches in the Southeastern Conference were mostly mum Thursday about the NCAA Board of Directors rescinding a ban on satellite camps. But one program made a figurative statement that was perhaps more significant.

Georgia plans to participate in a satellite camp with Michigan on June 2 at Maynard H. Jackson High School in Atlanta, according to a tweet from Cedar Grove High School (Ga.) football coach Jimmy Smith.

Harbaugh had taken a shot at first-year Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart in late February after Smart was quoted questioning the intent of camps and whether they bend or violate recruiting rules. The SEC was strongly against the existence of the camps and supported the NCAA Division I Council's banning of them on April 8.

Last week, however, Smart told a gathering of boosters in Dallas, according to DawgNation, “That whole thing got so overblown,” Smart said. “Because he and I, he and staff members from his staff had communicated. That’s a big deal to the media, big deal to you guys. But in the coaching profession we’re a bit more light-hearted about it.”
