Vandals damage windshields of 70-plus UGM Motors vehicles

Union Gospel Mission Motors' general manager said the vandals also siphoned gas and stole batteries from several vehicles.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Vandals have damaged more than 70 vehicles at Union Gospel Mission Motors in Spokane Valley over the past week.

UGM Motors is located at 7103 E. Sprague Avenue. The nonprofit sells donated vehicles, with profits benefitting Union Gospel Mission’s four homeless shelters in the Spokane area.

UGM Motors general manager Jim Stroh said vandals shot 74 car windshields using what may have been a BB gun. Some of the windshields were completely shattered while others had cracks that warranted replacement, he said.

The vandals hit most of the 180 vehicles on the property but the rest of the damage did not require repairs, Stroh said.

Stroh said the vandals also siphoned gas and stole batteries from several vehicles.

UGM Motors believes that the windshield vandalism began sometime around April 30 and has extended to newer cars on the lot in recent days, Stroh said.

“Somebody is coming back onto the property,” he added.

Stroh said police do not yet have any leads but will look at UGM Motors’ surveillance footage.

This is not an isolated incident, according to Stroh. He said several dealerships in the area have called UGM Motors to report similar vandalism, including damaged windshields, shots to a building’s doors and stolen vehicles.
