Man found dead near downtown Spokane identified thanks to public's help

The man was identified as 38-year-old Cody Croy by the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Medical Examiner has identified a man who was found dead in downtown Spokane.

According to the ME's office, the man is 38-year-old Cody Croy. His body was found at West Boone Avenue and North Normandie Street in Spokane on the morning of Feb. 26, 2024. Identification efforts were unsuccessful for several months, so the medical examiner's office sought the public's help on Wednesday, hoping someone may recognize him. Through the community's help, the office was able to return him to his family.

Croy's manner of death was determined to be an accidental overdose.

"The Medical Examiner’s Office was flooded with leads from the public and questions about missing loved ones," the office said in a statement. " The Medical Examiner’s Office thanks the public for their assistance in identifying Mr. Croy and returning him to his family."
