SPD officer, SCSO deputy in Hillyard officer-involved shooting identified

Officer Scott Hice and Deputy Sam Palmer were involved in the shooting in Hillyard on Monday.

HILLYARD, Wash. -- Authorities have identified the Spokane Police officer and Spokane County Sheriff's deputy involved in Monday's shooting in Hillyard.

Deputy Sam Palmer and officer Scott Hice were responding to an eviction call on North Regal Street.

Authorities said the man, 34-year-old Ronald Acre, was inside an apartment sitting on a couch. Officials said he had his hand under a blanket covering what the deputy and officer thought was a weapon. Acre was shot and is getting treatment at the hospital.

A rifle was found near the scene of the shooting.

Officer Hice was hired by the Spokane Police Department in 2014. He has worked for the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy, SWAT operator and school resource officer in the past.

Deputy Palmer was hired by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office in 2002. He started working in law enforcement with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department in 1999.

The shooting is under investigation.
