New U.S. Pavilion plans include view of Spokane from 40 feet off the ground

SPOKANE, Wash. — Crews working on the U.S. Pavilion in Riverfront Park unveiled the latest plans for what it will look like once the renovation is completed on Tuesday.

You may have seen this spectacular video of what the pavilion could look like once it's completed. It includes various colors spiraling around Spokane's iconic structure. Park crews can even set the colors for a seasonal theme. Plans also include an "elevated experience" that would allow visitors to see views from 40 feet off the ground.

The open space can be used for events and even concerts. At the center are two ramps that lead visitors up 40 feet from the ground inside the Pavilion.

One of the two ramps will be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant, the other with stairs. Both provide a gradually elevating path to the main bridge ending near the center of the Pavilion.

A concept photo shows where people can take in the views standing near the railing or seated at benches. The elevated view looks out west where you can see the bays at the base of the pavilion, public spaces, and walkways leading into the pavilion.

In a recent tour of the pavilion, Leroy Eadie with City Parks and Recreation said the unique elevated experience inside the Pavilion will give guests a 360 view of the park, Spokane River and the city.

On Tuesday, you may have noticed a few illumination blade panels already mounted to the cables.

Soon, the whole structure will be lit with various colors and themes.

The projected completion of the U.S. Pavilion is in two phases. The administrative offices and bays on the west side of the structure will be done early this coming summer. Access to under the cable structure and elevated ramps will be done in the late summer.
