Man killed in Chattaroy shooting, suspect in custody

Authorities have identified the suspect as Trystn Higgins. Police said he is facing murder charges.

CHATTAROY, Wash. — A suspect has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a man in Chattaroy Wednesday night, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Trystn Higgins. He is facing murder charges.

Deputies were called to the 27700 block of North Bear Lake Road around 7 p.m. and found the victim dead at the scene, said Mark Gregory, spokesman for the sheriff's office.

Gregory said the shooting appeared to be a domestic violence situation.

A car was taken from the scene of the shooting and deputies put out a description of the stolen vehicle. Gregory said a Spokane Police officer spotted a car matching the stolen vehicle's description in downtown Spokane.

The officer pulled the car over and took the person of interest into custody, Gregory said.

Major Crimes detectives were on scene Wednesday night waiting on a search warrant.

Gregory said the sheriff's office expects to give an update on Thursday.
