SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman who drowned at the Centennial Hotel in Spokane, near Riverfront Park, was identified Wednesday by the Spokane County Medical Examiner.
Marla Willeen Leander, 74, drowned after becoming incapacitated in the water due to an apparent heart attack, according to the medical examiner.
A police investigation found the incident was not criminal in nature.
"At this time it's looking like a tragic accident," said Corporal Teresa Fuller, spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department.
Hotel employees and witnesses were able to remove Leander's body from the pool and medics on the scene administered several lifesaving efforts, but the she did not survive.
A witness tells KREM 2 the hotel did not have a lifeguard on duty.
The Centennial Hotel was formerly the Red Lion at the Park until it was purchased by the Davenport Hotel last year and rebranded as the Centennial Hotel.
