Two Spokanimal foster dogs still need temporary homes

All but one foster dog was housed before the shelter shut down as a coronavirus precaution.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The call went out to help a local animal shelter, and the Spokane community responded.

A happy story during the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak happened at Spokanimal. The shelter shared pictures on Tuesday of families who agreed to take in an animal while the shelter has to shut down.

All but one foster dog was housed before the shelter shut down as a coronavirus precaution.

Spokanimal Executive Director Dori Peck said her crew worked hard to get the animals placed in safety before shutting down.

The shelter closed to the public about a week ago for the safety of the staff and the public amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

Spokanimal said it is grateful that people responded when needed and wanted to thank everyone for coming to the rescue.

Spokanimal is down to one last dog in need of a foster family.

Her name is Trina. She is the last dog at the shelter.

She has some special needs, but Spokanimal said if someone has room in their family to help, Trina needs a home. The shelter said to give them a call and they can help families decide if Trina would be a good fit.  The shelter is officially closed, but Trina is being looked after until she can be fostered.

Some other things to know about Trina:

  • She struggles with stairs
  • She likes to bark
  • Does best if she's the only pet in the house

Trina is now joined by Chance, another dog looking for a foster home.

The number for Spokanimal is (509) 534-8133.
