Conrad Fire burns over 5,300 acres; 85% contained

The Conrad Fire in Yakima has burned 5,354 acres as of Tuesday morning.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- As of Wednesday morning, all road closures and evacuations have been lifted. Local Department of Natural Resources will take over patrol of the fire.

The Conrad Fire in Yakima has burned 5,354 acres as of 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Washington Department of Natural Resources officials said the fire is 85% contained. WADNR said no structures are threatened.

WADNR said 250 firefighters from across Washington state are battling high winds and terrain. Crews worked overnight Monday into Tuesday to contain the fire.

The fire is burning on Clemens Mountain outside of Naches Fire District in Yakima County. On Sunday evening, nearly 50 homes in the area of Box Canyon and Conrad roads were evacuated.

Officials from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources said dozens of engines and four aircraft responded to the fire on Monday.

The Red Cross set up a shelter at Naches Middle School.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
