Robert Salinas, Mattawa Police Chief, dead after being hospitalized two days ago

Robert Salinas was hospitalized January 14 with a brain bleed. His son, Antonio Salinas updated the Mattawa community through social media.

MATTAWA, Wash. — Family and friends of Mattawa Police Chief, Robert Salinas are mourning his death today.

“I don’t hate many things, but for the rest of my life I will FOREVER hate January 16th. The day that the world stopped spinning,” said Antonio Salinas, Chief Salinas’ son, on Facebook.

Two days ago, on January 15, the Mattawa Police Department posted on Facebook, “Please keep Chief Salinas in your thoughts and prayers.”

According to Antonio on Facebook, late on January 14, Chief Salinas was rushed to the hospital, where medical staff found out he had a bleed in his brain.

He was then flown to Tacoma General Hospital.

At 8:30 p.m. on January 15, his son posted an update saying doctors diagnosed him with leukemia following a microscopic examination of his blood.

Less than 24 hours later, Antonio posted that his father had passed.

Mattawa Police Department released a statement on Facebook today thanking Chief Salinas for his, “service, dedication, and friendship.”

Salinas started as the Mattawa Police Chief in 2022.

He leaves behind a wife and children.
