SPOKANE -- A Superior Court Judge has ruled that all of Spokane's red light camera tickets from here on out are invalid.
On Friday, Judge Jerome Leveque ruled that the tickets must be physically signed in the state of Washington in order from them to be valid.
According to Spokane criminal defense attorney Dean Chuang, the red light cameras are owned by a company in Arizona. A reviewing Spokane officer gives permission for the company to electronically sign the officer's name in Arizona after the officer reviews the picture. The ticket is then signed in Arizona and sent directly to the offender in Washington.
The city of Spokane learned about the ruling Friday afternoon. Officer Teresa Fuller everyone is meeting at the city attorney's office Monday morning to discuss the ruling to see where they go from here. As of right now, nothing will be changed. She said the cameras will not be shut off and everything will continue as normal.
