One treated for smoke inhalation following East Spokane house fire

Seven residents escaped the fire at E. Main Avenue and N. Stone Street. Crews did have to put an oxygen mask on a cat.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Dozens of firefighters are working to control a house fire burning in Spokane on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters told KREM's Nicole Hernandez that seven residents escaped the fire burning at the corner of E. Main Avenue and N. Stone Street. Crews did have to put an oxygen mask on a cat.

The fire began burning on the second or third floor of the home, firefighters said. The attic then caught fire, causing the flames to spread further.

At one point, the fire was so hot that all crews were pulled out of the home.

Firefighters have since been sent back into the home to finish fighting the blaze.

It is unclear what sparked the fire.

Neighbors said they're shaken up from the days events.

"It was more of like an adrenaline rush," said Daniel Jones.

Jones works across the street from the house that caught fire. He said he called 911 as soon as he saw the smoke. While he was talking with first responders, he said two of his coworkers ran inside.

"Pretty much everyone was sleeping, and they rushed in and made sure everyone was safe and got out safely," Jones said.

Firefighters said everyone made it out safely. They said one man was treated for smoke inhalation but was later released from the hospital.
