Five local artists chosen to paint new murals in downtown Spokane

Five local artists have been chosen to create the murals following the theme of "Beauty."

SPOKANE, Wash. — Visitors to downtown Spokane will see five new murals by the Community Building near Main Street.

According to Angela Chapman, the Community Building manager, five local artists have been chosen to create the murals following the theme of "Beauty."

This year's artists are: Amber Hoit, Daniel Lopez, Brittany Trambitas, Danielle Davis and Desire McGinn.

A spokesperson for the Community Building said they hope that every two years the murals will be painted over by new artists.

"The vision of the Community Building Community at the East end of West Main Street is to create a living art alley from end to end that encourages curiosity, increases foot traffic, and can be enjoyed all year round - block parties included!" said Chapman. "It will be a one of a kind space in Spokane, drawing visitors from the whole city and beyond."

The artists will be painting between June 24 and July 10.

There will be a block party to celebrate the completions of the murals on July 11 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Community Building Alley between Browne and Division at 35 W. Main Ave.
