SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police confirm that a child has died after being attacked by a dog in their home on Tuesday night. Spokane Police responded to the report of an animal attack just after 8 p.m.
When officers arrived they discovered a child had been attacked by the family dog. Officers and medical personnel immediately began rendering aid, but sadly, the child died from their injuries.
Family members attempted to protect the child and in doing so severely injured the dog. Ultimately officers euthanized the animal on scene.
Police say there does not appear to be any criminality involved in the incident. Police are calling it a "tragic accident."
Police also confirm the attack was not related to trick-or-treating.
