Runners make their mark on Bloomsday race day

The 48th Bloomsday racers were ready to run the course, even in the pouring rain.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The energy for the 48th Bloomsday race was contagious from the starting line to Doomsday Hill, and down to the finish line.

Whether it's just a sprinkle or an outright downpour, nothing stopped Bloomies from hitting the pavement today. Some embraced the idea of Mother Nature's early morning shower.

Once they warmed up, runners flung layers, upon layers, into the trees. These clothes are donated to a local charity.

"As you round the bend and just you see tiny specks of color going up over the hill do you truly realize what a battle it's going to be."

Doomsday Hill is an exhaustingly steep climb. But runners still mustered up the energy to celebrate at the top with the Bloomsday vulture.

Well, done Bloomies, we'll see you next year!
