MultiCare, Premera work to strike deal that could impact insurance between both companies

The goal of the deal is to make sure MultiCare can continue providing in-network care for patients following Premera health plans.

SPOKANE, Wash. — MultiCare is working on a deal with Premera Blue Cross regarding new agreements for all insurance products.

According to the company's website, the goal of the deal is to "ensure MultiCare can continue providing high-quality in-network care to the communities we serve."

MultiCare officials added that if Premera turns down this deal, patients they serve who have Premera health plans will no longer have in-network access to MultiCare hospitals, doctors or facilities starting on June 1.

"While disrupting patient care is not our desire, our mission of partnering for healing and a healthy future has become much more difficult as we manage rising costs driven by inflation, staffing shortages, and insufficient insurance reimbursement rates that do not match increased costs," health officials said in an online statement.

Anyone with questions on MultiCare's ongoing negotiations with Premera can contact the patient assistance line at (509) 530-3091 (Inland Northwest region) or (253) 792-6633 (Puget Sounds, Yakima regions).
