WASHINGTON — Women in Washington are still fighting for equal pay in 2024. On March 12, the Washington Women's Commission announced that the gender pay gap in the state is the second largest in the nation.

March 12 is also Equal Pay Day, according to the National Committee on Pay Equity.

New research from the National Partnership for Women and Families and the U.S. Census Bureau shows Washington women made, on average, $18,400 less in wages than men in 2022.

This is the second-largest gender-based wage gaps in the U.S., just behind Utah at $20,649.

Last year, the U.S. News and World Report said that Washington women made 77 cents to every dollar a man made in 2021.

For Black, Indigenous women and other women of color, the wage gap is even more prominent. Latina women are paid $35,402 less, Native American women are paid $31,587 less and Black women are paid $28,405 less than white, non-Hispanic men.
