Hayden City Council holds public hearing on proposed development near Coeur d'Alene Airport

The proposed project would create 412 dwelling units, two public parks, private open space and a light industrial lot.

HAYDEN, Idaho — The Hayden City Council spent about three hours Tuesday night in a crowded council chamber for one item on the agenda: the proposed Hayden Sky development.

According to city documents, the proposed project would create 412 dwelling units, two public parks, private open space and a light industrial lot.

The application also proposes to develop 300 residential lots with one- & two-story single homes and 28 two-story fourplexes.

The industrial lot would be for self-storage. The development would be located at 4085 West Hayden Avenue, just southwest of the Coeur d'Alene Airport.

The proposal's representatives told city councilmembers they plan to build the development in four phases. If approved the they hope to start construction on phase one this year.

But a couple of community members questioned the proposal, with sewage being a big concern, since a waste water treatment facility is located nearby.

Traffic, especially at the nearby Hayden & Huetter intersection, also drew concerns.

The Hayden City Council had the option of approving, denying or delaying the preliminary planned unit of development.

In the end, the councilmembers approved the preliminary proposed project 3-2.
