August 3 is National Watermelon Day and all of us at KREM 2 are celebrating!
There's nothing like some sweet watermelon on a hot summer day. But what could be better than watermelon and waffles?
Here is Brittany's twist from a recipe on the Random Thoughts of a SUPERMOM! blog.
Ingredients:
Boxed pancake or waffle mix (or make your own from scratch!) and required ingredients
Mini chocolate chips
Watermelon powdered drink mix
Red and green food coloring
Butter
Syrup
Directions:
Prepare waffle mix according to the directions on the box.
Separate 1/3 of the batter into one bowl, keeping the remaining 2/3 in a separate bowl.
Drop several drops of green food coloring into the smaller bowl. Mix well.
Drop several drops of the red food coloring into the larger bowl. Mix well.
Preheat and spray round waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray. When ready, pour a line of the green batter around the edge of the waffle iron. Pour red batter to fill the center. Sprinkle the red batter with mini chocolate chips. Close griddle to bake waffle.
When ready, serve waffle sections as watermelon slices. Top with butter and syrup if desired.
