Spokane Humane Society accepts animals from Texas shelters affected by Harvey

A San Antonio shelter will be transferring 40 dogs to Spokane this weekend to free up space for displaced pets.  Spokane Humane Society is also taking item donations to send to Texas.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Humane Society has partnered with a Texas animal shelter, San Antonio Pets Alive, to rescue animals displaced by the flooding from Harvey.

These are animals who were previously up for adoption. Texas shelters need to make room for displaced pets to be reunited with their families in Texas.

According to a release from Spokane Humane Society, the San Antonio shelter will be transferring 40 dogs to Spokane this weekend to free up space for displaced pets. Spokane Humane Society said updates will be released on Facebook.

Additional transfers to Spokane will occur later in September as more animals are rescued.

For those who want to help out in relief efforts but cannot adopt a pet, Spokane Humane Society is collecting donation items to send to Texas. If you want to donate, Spokane Humane Society asks for the items to be brought to the shelter at 6607 N Havana Street, Spokane, Wash. The donation list is below.
