SCSO warns parents about man’s suspicious behavior toward young girl

The man drove up to the girl in his car, and asked if she had missed the bus and needed a ride since she appeared to be running.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Spokane Valley Police Department officials said an adult male’s suspicious behavior concerned a young female student earlier this week.

Spokane County Sheriff's Office warned parents about the incident on Facebook.

As the student walked to school near Evergreen Road and 26th Avenue, the male drove up in a small white four-door vehicle, and asked if she had missed the bus and needed a ride since she appeared to be running. The student declined and went on her way to school.

Later in the afternoon as she walked home from school, the girl noticed the man walking behind her near Evergreen and 24th Avenue, officials said. The man did not say anything or attempt to contact her, but the girl said she got a “creepy feeling” seeing the male again.

A neighbor pulled up a couple of blocks later to give the girl a ride home.

The male is described in his 50s or 60s, approximately 5’11” with medium build and balding with gray hair on the sides. Officials said he was wearing shorts with a windbreaker style jacket; these were described as orange and black.

Although the male’s reported actions are not criminal, his intentions are not known and were alarming to the young student, officials said. Deputies and detectives want to identify the man and talk to him about the incident.

Attempts to locate and identify this subject have not been successful and no similar incidents are known to have been reported, officials said.

Officials said the advisory is meant to inform parents, and to request that anyone who has information incidents or can help identify the man to call Crime Check at 509-456-2244 and reference #10049317.
