Spokane City Council passes ordinance requiring life jackets be worn on water in city limits

The current ordinance requires people to wear life jackets if they are on canoes, kayaks and other personal watercraft.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane City Council passed an ordinance Tuesday night that would require life jacket to be worn on the water within city limits.

The current ordinance requires people to wear life jackets if they are on canoes, kayaks and other personal watercraft. Now people on inner tubes and other swim devices will be required to as well. The new chapter of the ordinance also consolidates and clarifies issues surrounding river safety including life vests, alcohol consumption, river closure and enforcement.

If you are caught not wearing a life jacket, you will be forced to pay a $31 fine.
