Police believe body found near Mission Park has been there for a while

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police are investigating after a body was found by Mission Park at North Superior and Sharp Thursday afternoon.

Officials said the body was found by a passerby just after 11:30 a.m. near a walking trail in the 1100 block of North Superior Street. Spokane Police Officers, Major Crimes detectives and investigators from the Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene. Detectives are actively investigating to determine the cause and nature of the person's death.

Officials said 3:50 p.m., authorities said the walking trail would remain closed for the several more hours until the investigation is finished.

Police ask anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or have any information related to the investigation to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

The identity of the person and the cause of death will be released by the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office once they have notified the person's family.
