Dog injured in Kamiah recovering after being attacked by dog, hit by car

According to the Idaho County Sheriff's Office, Tharros was recently out in the open and started to harass some sheep.

LEWISTON, Idaho -- A dog is recovering after being attacked by another dog in North Central Idaho.

Supporters of a Lewiston non-profit initially told KREM 2 the dog was shot and abused by its owner. According to authorities, that is not true. It was attacked by another dog, then hit by a car. Still, it is hurt and receiving treatment at Washington State University's veterinary hospital.

Tharros is the name given to the dog from Kamiah. Tharros is recovering at WSU after some pretty serious injuries.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff's Office, Tharros was recently out in the open and started to harass some sheep. Another dog, protecting the sheep, then bit Tharros on her jaw and started to throw her around. As she ran away, she was hit by a car.

Authorities say a passerby then spotted Tharros' owner preparing to shoot her, saying he wanted to put her down and could not pay for treatment. The bystander then offered to take a dog to Zeus' friends, a Lewiston non-profit animal group.

A supporter of the group initially told us that the dog was shot. But again, that is not true. Tharros was not abused and no crime was committed.

Photos from WSU show the bandage that is now on her jaw. WSU veterinarians said she is resting comfortably and is in stable condition.

At this point, it is not clear what is next for the dog. WSU leaders said their veterinarians were evaluating her condition Monday before determining the next treatment.
