Spokane air quality 'good' after a week of wildfire smoke

The smoke is coming from the Williams Flats Fire burning on the Colville Reservation near Lake Roosevelt.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane's air quality climbed into the "good" range on Sunday after nearly a week of wildfire smoke impacted the area. 

Friday morning's air quality started in the 'good' range but fell to "moderate" in the late afternoon. It improved again on Saturday amid heavy rainfall in the area. 

The air quality levels is Sandpoint, Idaho, and Colville, Washington, were among the worst in the nation on Friday. They have since improved.

Spokane's air quality ranked among the worst in the nation on Thursday morning for the third time in less than a week, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.  

The National Weather Service has issued both an Air Quality Alert for the Spokane area through Friday of last week. 

Where was the smoke coming from?

The National Weather Service says smoke moved into the Spokane area this week from the Williams Flats Fire burning on the Colville Reservation

Smoke from fires in Montana also moved into the Inland Northwest.

The Williams Flats Fire has burned 40,000 acres and is 25% contained. 

Spokane Clean Air says a wildfire near Osoyoos, Canada, was also contributing to smoky skies in the Spokane area.
