SPOKANE, Wash. — The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting strong to severe thunderstorms with the possibility of flooding for Thursday and Friday this week.

NWS has high confidence that strong and slow-moving thunderstorms will impact the area with strong rainfall. Strong winds are also forecasted.

A Flash Flood Watch and a Flood Watch are in place due to possible impacts. Thunderstorm impacts could include hail, lightning and winds.

Up to one inch of rain could fall in a short period of time with the strongest thunderstorms that develop this evening and that could very well cause flash flooding. Locations that are in flood prone, have poor drainage, or are burn scared would be most at risk of flooding.

The Weather Prediction Center has upped the flooding risk for our region to a "Slight Risk" meaning a 15% chance for flooding within a 25 mile radius of any forecasted point.

While rain could occur at any point on Thursday, the most likely time for strong storms and heavy rain is between 5pm and 10pm. Some storms could begin around 2pm over North Idaho and then travel westward into eastern Washington by the late afternoon, early evening.

Friday morning's rainfall will most likely migrate towards northern Washington.

The severe risk for thunderstorms did decrease, meaning the threat for damaging hail and high winds is lower. The Storm Prediction Center reduced the outlook level from "Marginal" to "non-severe."
