The first day of summer is off to an active start in the Inland Northwest!

Thursday is bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Flooding is a concern for:

  • Benewah; Bonner; Kootenai; Shoshone; Pend Oreille; and Spokane Counties
  • This includes the cities of: Including the cities of Plummer, Tensed, Sandpoint, Priest River, Blanchard, Careywood, Coeur d`Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Worley, Bayview, Rathdrum, Athol, Kellogg, Pinehurst, Osburn, Wallace, Mullan, Smelterville, Calder, Newport, Metaline Falls, Ione, Cusick, Diamond Lake, Spokane, Airway Heights, Medical Lake, Cheney, Rockford, Liberty Lake, and Deer Park

The flood watch is in effect from Thursday morning until Thursday evening. Urban areas could see storm drains overtaken with water. Steep terrain and creeks will see sudden increases in water, and roads could be covered in mud and gravel.

An unstable air mass is passing through Thursday, tracking through eastern Washington and the North Idaho panhandle. We'll see a great deal of moisture, too. The ingredients for thunderstorms are there.
