SPOKANE, Wash. — A fast growing, tech friendly bus service provider will begin offering rides from Spokane to other Pacific Northwest destinations starting Nov. 21.
FlixBus is a company known for its green initiatives and launched in Germany in 2013, according to GeekWire. The company is partnering with MTR Western, a Seattle-based transportation services company.
FlixBus Spokesperson Julianna Alvarez said busses will start running Spokane to Seattle buses on Nov. 21. According to the company’s website, a one-way ticket is $9.99.
The bus departs at 8:50 a.m. and arrives at 1:55 p.m. A similar trip on a Greyhound bus on the same day costs $64, leaving 8:50 a.m. and arriving in Seattle at 4:30 p.m.
FlixBus will also offer trips to Coeur d’Alene, Ellensburg, Eugene, Oregon, Portland, Oregon, and Tacoma. The most expensive trip from Spokane on Nov. 21 is to Eugene, Oregon costing $25.98 one-way.
Alvarez said prices will work similar to airlines in that they can vary by day of the week and demand. She said buses hold between 52-56 people, depending on the model.
According to the FlixBus website, the company’s goal is to provide green and smart mobility options as alternatives to a private car. The company states all its buses meet a “high level of efficiency in terms of fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.”
