Take a hike: August 4 is Washington Trails Day

Governer Jay Inslee officially proclaimed August 4 as Washington Trails Day.

Governor Jay Inslee signed an official decree naming August 4 as Washington Trails Day.

The purpose is to preserve Washington's natural beauty for future generations, according to the Washington Trails Association (WTA).

Inslee's proclamation reads, "In recognition of our love of public lands... I encourage all people in our state to join me in this special observance" of Washington Trails Day.

WTA started a petition to prioritize funding for recreation. Their website also lists Washington's seven national forests and ways to enjoy them.
