SPOKANE, Wash. — A climate strike is underway at Riverfront Park on Friday afternoon.
The protest began at 3 p.m. Dozens of people showed up to event. Protesters lied down on the ground as part of the demonstration to symbolize the lives that could be lost due to climate change.
The event details said, “As the climate crisis worsens, we mourn the death of our planet & a livable future for generations to come. In order to save our ecosystems & communities, we need bold change. Come join us to DEMAND more from those with the money, power, and resources to enact that change.”
The protest is part of the global Sunrise Movement. Organizers want young people across America to join the national climate strike as world leaders gather at the United Nations climate conference.
The Sunrise Movement held a climate strike back in September where students all over the country walked out of their classrooms. The strike was also aimed at pushing the world’s leaders to take substantive steps toward halting the advance of climate change.
