SPOKANE, Wash. – In an interesting twist of fate, the Gonzaga Bulldogs' opponent has a 2003 alumnus working for them.
Former Zag basketball player Kyle Bankhead is the Director of Basketball Operations for No. 13 seed UNC-Greensboro. The two teams will face off on Thursday at 10:20 a.m. on TNT.
According to the UNC-Greensboro website, Bankhead started 48 games for Gonzaga, and helped the team win four straight West Coast conference titles and three WCC Tournament championships. He was part of four NCAA Tournament Teams, with a Sweet 16 trip in 2001.
Bankhead is the seventh all-time in Gonzaga history with 169 career 3-pointers, according to the website. After graduating with a degree in sports management in 2003, he played professional basketball in Germany for one year.
The UNC Greensboro Spartans are 15 -3 and 1st in the Southern conference. Their record sits at 27 – 7 overall. Most recently, the Spartans lost 60 to 48 in a game against the University of Virginia.
