'That's 50 percent stupid': Mike Leach talks offensive 'balance'

"There's nothing balanced about 50 percent run, 50 percent pass, because that's 50 percent stupid," the WSU coach said Monday in response to questions about his offense not being balanced.

Maybe the most glaring thing on the stat sheet from Wazzu’s win over Utah was the lack of rushing yards- 0 to be exact. Obviously Washington State is a pass-first team, but that’s still a stat that sticks out. For Leach, though, it’s no problem.

"There's nothing balanced about 50 percent run, 50 percent pass, because that's 50 percent stupid," the WSU coach said Monday. "What is balanced is when you have five skill positions, if all five of them are contributing to the offensive effort in a somewhat equal fashion that's balanced."

Cougs taking on Oregon State this week— a team that is in rebuilding mode under first year head coach Jonathan Smith. According to ESPN stats and Info the Beavers only have an 11% chance to beat the Cougs — and this game is in Corvallis. If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about rebuilding a program it’s Mike Leach.

"If he thinks it's tough there he ought to try it at Washington State our first year," Leach said. "They weren't in quite the hole Washington State was because they've been a pretty good team in recent years. We were in a little bigger hole when we started out here."

WSU has won four straight in the series, but the last time they went down to OSU, they trailed by 18 at half and only won by 4 points.

Kickoff in Reser Stadium Saturday is at 6:00 p.m.
