SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Indians started its season off with a bang winning 9-1 against the Vancouver Canadians on the road on Friday.

The Indians wasted no time getting ahead as they did damage in the top of the first inning. Designated hitter Luis Asuncion homered to left field and brought in center fielder Ryan Anderson to make it 2-0 early.

The team would score in five of the first six innings to provide consistent scoring to put the game away.

The Indians used a group of five pitchers in this one. Ricky Vanasco got the start. He pitched four innings allowed just two hits and dealt seven strikeouts.

The Indians and Canadians will play again Saturday in Vancouver for the second game of the series. Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
