Spokane Indians snap skid in return home

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Indians snapped their six-game losing streak, defeating the Tri-City Dust Devils 5-2 in front of a standing room only crowd of 7,001 on 4th of July Fireworks Night presented by NAPA Auto Parts, KREM 2, and 98.9 KKZX.

After losing all five games in Hillsboro over the weekend, the Indians were happy to be back in the friendly confines of Avista Stadium. They immediately struck for a two-out rally in the first inning. After back-to-back base hits from Jonah McReynolds and Curtis Terry, Tanner Gardner knocked a two-run single to give Spokane a 2-0 lead. A bases loaded walk to Isaias Quiroz a couple batters later would chase Dust Devils starter Adrian Martinez after just 0.2 innings, and Spokane held a 3-0 lead after one.

The Indians would add on in the bottom of the third with another two-out hit. Cristian Inoa smacked an RBI double to right, scoring Curtis Terry and extending the lead to 4-0.

Jake Latz (W, 1-1) pitched five strong innings for Spokane. His only mistake was a two-run homer off the bat of Aldemar Burgos. Latz finished the night giving up just the two runs and striking out four to pick up his first professional win.

The Indians got an insurance run in the fifth. Austin O'Banion drove in Curtis Terry with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead, 5-2. The heart of the order of McReynolds, Terry, and Gardner combined for five hits and all five runs scored for Spokane.

The Indians' bullpen shut down the Dust Devils from there. David Lebron twirled three no-hit innings. He's given up just one earned run in 10 innings to start the season. Emmanuel Clase bounced back from his blown save on Saturday and pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
